National holidays
in the United States include New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The holidays listed above represent the federal holidays observed by the majority of states. However, the United States actually has no “official” national holidays since each state designates holidays through the legislative process or by executive order. The United States Congress can legally designate holidays for federal employees and for the District of Columbia. Other “non-federal” holidays observed by most Americans include St Valentine’s Day, Easter and Halloween.
